Tips from an original organized Mom.
Take advantage of your school district's Welcome Center or pay a visit to the front office at your child's school before school starts. Real estate agents may not have up-to-date information about the schools in many of the newer, rapidly growing neighborhoods.
Keep it simple. Avoid trendy or specialized filing systems.
Use ordinary manila file folders marked with each child's name.
Fans of color-coding can assign each child a color, but stick with standard-size files that can be easily replenished.
Keep all original birth certificates (in a fire proof place) and original immunization records for every family member in on central file labeled "originals."
Make several copies of important original documents, such as birth certificates, health records, social security card and legal papers if there are divorce, separation or custody issues involving the child. Keep the copies in the folder labeled with that child's name.
Ask for copies of anything the school asks you to fill out or sign. Back-to-school time is hectic for faculty and staff, and papers are sometimes lost or misfiled. Your copy can save time and aggravation for everyone involved.
